One-third of patients with depression do not show improvement with medication

The shortage of available care in the National Health Service and the lack of coverage for psychotherapy and alternative therapies jeopardize the success of treatment. Many patients hide their condition at work, leading to lost income due to absenteeism and social isolation.

Expresso published the results of the study “The Perspective of Patients with Depression in Portugal”, developed by FamiliarMente, the Portuguese Federation of Associations of Families of People with Mental Illness, and Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, with technical support from MOAI Consulting.

At MOAI, we believe that scientific evidence must include the perspective of those living with the illness. Integrating patients’ voices into our work is the first step toward better understanding the challenges of each illness and promoting more comprehensive, person-centered treatment approaches.
